Gas description
Sulfur dioxide (chemical formula SO2) is the most common, simple and irritating sulfur oxide. One of the main atmospheric pollutants. Volcanic eruptions emit this gas, and sulfur dioxide is also produced in many industrial processes. Since coal and oil usually contain sulfur, sulfur dioxide will be generated when burned. When sulfur dioxide is dissolved in water, sulphurous acid will be formed. If sulphurous acid is further oxidized in the presence of PM2.5, it will quickly and efficiently generate sulfuric acid (the main component of acid rain). This is one of the reasons for concern about the environmental effects of using these fuels as energy.
On october27,2017, the list of carcinogens published by the international agency for research on cancer of the World Health Organization was preliminarily sorted out for reference. Sulfur dioxide was included in the list of three types of carcinogens.
Main purpose
1. it is used as organic solvent and refrigerant, and for refining various lubricating oils.
2. it is mainly used to produce sulfur trioxide, sulfuric acid, sulfite and thiosulfate, and also used as fumigant, antiseptic, disinfectant, reductant, etc.
3. sulfur dioxide is a reducing bleach permitted in China. It can bleach food and strongly inhibit the oxidase in plant food. According to Chinese regulations, it can be used for wine and fruit wine. The maximum dosage is 0.25g/kg, and the residue shall not exceed 0.05g/kg.
4. pesticide, man-made fiber, dye and other industrial sectors.
5. used for the production of sulfur and as insecticide and bactericide.
