Purpose:
1. Isooctane is a reference material for testing the antiknock performance of gasoline. The octane numbers of isooctane and heptane are specified as 100 and 0 respectively. If the gasoline sample is in a single cylinder engine and its antiknock performance is equivalent to a certain composition of isooctane heptane mixture under the specified test conditions, the octane number of the sample is equal to the volume percentage of isooctane in the standard fuel. Gasoline with good antiknock performance has high octane number. It is used as a standard fuel for determining the octane number of gasoline. It is also used as an additive for vehicle gasoline and aviation gasoline. Butadiene is used as a solvent in polymerization.
2. It is used for organic synthesis and as a reference sample for solvent and gas chromatography. It has good shock resistance when burning in the cylinder of internal combustion engine and is an excellent engine fuel. It is a standard fuel for determining the octane number (seismic resistance) of gasoline. It is mainly used as an additive for gasoline and aviation gasoline, as well as a non-polar inert solvent in organic synthesis.
