Properties

Oxcarbazepine exerts pharmacological effects mainly through its metabolite monohydroxy derivatives. The mechanism of oxcarbazepine and MHD is believed to be mainly through blocking the voltage sensitive sodium channel, thus stabilizing the cell membrane of over excited neurons, inhibiting the repetitive discharge of neurons and reducing the transmission of synaptic impulses. In addition, it also has anticonvulsant effect by increasing the conductivity of potassium and regulating high voltage to activate calcium channel.
