Brief Introduction
Sodium azide is a kind of preservative for photographic emulsion. It can be added to emulsion, intermediate layer and protective layer. It does not affect the photographic performance of emulsion. It has excellent antiseptic and bactericidal performance. Sodium azide can also be used to prepare blood culture medium. In analytical chemistry, sodium azide is used to analyze sulfides and thiocyanates. In organic synthesis, sodium azide is used to make hydroazide acid, lead azide, herbicide and so on. Sodium azide is also used in automobile airbags. When there is a car accident, it quickly decomposes and releases nitrogen to inflate the airbags. Sodium azide’s toxicity can be attributed to its role as a reversible inhibitor of mitochondrial respiration and insulin secretion in human pancreatic cells.
