【 Product introduction 】 this article is a drug that inhibits the synthesis of uric acid. Allopurinol and its metabolite oxypurinol both inhibit xanthine oxidase and prevent hypoxanthine and xanthine metabolism to uric acid, thereby reducing uric acid production. Lowering the uric acid content of blood and urine to levels below solubility prevents the deposition of uric acid forming crystals within joints and other tissues and also helps re dissolve uric acid crystals within tissues of patients with gout. Allopurinol also inhibits new purine synthesis in vivo through effects on hypoxanthine guanine phosphate nuclease.
