5-fluorocytosine can be used as an antifungal drug, especially with antibacterial activity against some fungal infections. It is often used to treat infectious diseases caused by fungi such as Candida and Cryptococcus.
5-fluorocytosine can be metabolized into 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), which is a commonly used antitumor drug. In vivo, after 5-fluorocytosine is converted into 5-FU, it can exert antitumor activity by affecting nucleic acid synthesis, inhibiting tumor cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis.
