Main uses of the product:
1. in the chemical industry, ethane is mainly used to produce ethylene through steam cracking. When mixed with steam and added to a high temperature of 900 ℃ or above, heavy hydrocarbons are cracked into light hydrocarbons, and alkanes become olefins. Compared with other heavier raw materials, a large part of ethane becomes ethylene during steam cracking, while heavier compounds will produce many mixtures, including many heavy olefins such as propylene, butadiene and aromatic hydrocarbons, reducing the composition of ethylene.
2. ethane can be used as refrigerant in refrigeration facilities. In scientific research, liquid ethane is used in electron microscopy to make samples with high water content transparent. When the thin water layer is rapidly immersed in liquid ethane at -150 ° C or lower of the facility, it will freeze rapidly and will not form crystals. Such rapid freezing will not destroy the structure of soft matter in liquid water as ice crystallizes.
Production process:
1. separate oil field gas or natural gas from oil field gas. In addition to methane, oil field gas or natural gas also contains a small amount of ethane, propane or other hydrocarbons with more carbon atoms. The content in natural gas is about 5-10%, second only to methane. After separation, ethane can be obtained. The liquified liquid obtained from cryogenic separation of natural gas is composed of ethane and propane. The composition of light hydrocarbon mixture with butane as the main component is related to the source of natural gas, separation and processing temperature and pressure conditions. The typical composition (P) is: ethane 37.6%, propane 35.9%, butane 11.6%, isobutane 3.9%, n-pentane 3.1% and others 7.9%.
2. separation from refinery gas. In addition to methane, the petroleum processing gas in each refinery also contains ethane, propane, C4 and C5 Hydrocarbons. After separation, ethane can be obtained.
3. ethane can be separated from cracked gas by cryogenic method.
Ethane is the simplest hydrocarbon with carbon carbon single bond, which exists in natural gas (5% ~ 10%). It is a colorless, odorless and flammable gas, which is soluble in benzene and ethanol (46ml / 100ml at 4 ℃). Vapor and air constitute an explosive mixture, with an explosion limit of 3.0% ~ 12.5% (volume fraction).
