Gas description
Hydrogen sulfide, with the molecular formula of H2S and the molecular weight of 34.076, is a flammable acid gas under standard conditions. It is colorless. It smells like rotten eggs at low concentrations and sulfur at very low concentrations. It is highly toxic (lc50=444ppm<500ppm). Its aqueous solution is hydrosulphuric acid. The molecular weight is 34.08, the vapor pressure is 2026.5kpa/25.5 ℃, the flash point is <-50 ℃, the melting point is -85.5 ℃, the boiling point is -60.4 ℃, and the relative density is (air =1) 1.19. Soluble in water, easily soluble in alcohols, petroleum solvents and crude oil. The ignition point is 292 ℃. Hydrogen sulfide is a flammable hazardous chemical, which can form explosive mixture when mixed with air. It can cause combustion and explosion in case of open fire and high heat. Hydrogen sulfide is an important chemical raw material.
Main purpose
1. It is used in the manufacture of synthetic phosphor, electric discharge, photoconductor, photoelectric exposure meter, etc.
2. Organic synthetic reducing agent.
3. Used for metal refining, pesticide, medicine and catalyst regeneration.
4. Various sulfides are prepared for the manufacture of inorganic sulfides, as well as for chemical analysis, such as the identification of metal ions.
5. Hydrogen sulfide can be used in industry to produce high-purity sulfide (reacting with sulfur dioxide); Hot springs containing hydrogen sulfide have certain curative effects on skin diseases. Hydrogen sulfide is an acidic gas, which can react with some metals such as silver. For example, when hydrogen sulfide contacts with silver, it will produce dark brown silver sulfide. Hydrogen sulfide is mainly used for chemical identification and analysis of metal ions as shown in this figure.
It is widely used in manufacturing industries such as metal smelter, natural gas, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. H2S gas emission is often observed in the manufacture of various sulfides such as sulphated pulp, rayon, artificial cotton, rubber and carbon disulfide. H2S is also decomposed by labile sulfur-containing compounds in some chemical chemicallook reactions, such as: coke, refined oil, and metal smelter, where it acts as a regular exhaust gas and can leak into the air very easily. Sulfide dye decomposition also evolved H2S gas.
